Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start shopping for my gown?

We recommend shopping for your dress about 9-12 months before your wedding. You need to leave enough time for the designer to produce and ship your dress and for alterations to be made.

Can I still purchase a dress if my wedding is soon?

Yes! We have a beautiful selection of dresses that can be purchased right off the rack and taken with you that day. We also carry an amazing collection of designers who have many of their dresses in stock or in production and can be shipped at an earlier date. Rush delivery for an extra charge may also be an option.

Do I need to schedule an appointment or can I just walk in?

Appointments are not required but are highly recommended. When you make an appointment you will be set up with a personal consultant who will focus on your every need. If you are a walk in we will do our very best to accommodate you but there is no guarantee there will be a consultant or dressing room available at that time.

How long is each bridal consultation?

We have found that 90 minutes is a sufficient amount of time for our brides to work with a stylist on selecting dresses and trying them on.

What if I need more than an 90 minutes?

If you need more than the 90 minutes allotted time slot and there are no appointments right after you we are happy to extend your appointment. However, if there are appointments right after yours we are happy to either reschedule you for another time slot the same day or another day of your choice.

What should I bring to my appointment?

You should bring budget parameters, proper undergarments (strapless bra is recommended), pictures of dresses, and most importantly an open mind.

Who should I bring with me to my appointment?

Bring along family members and/or close friends who know your style and will support you in finding your perfect wedding gown. While shopping for a wedding gown is a fun and exciting experience, it can also be overwhelming and confusing. Having too many opinions can sometimes make your decision tougher. We suggest bringing up to 4 people. If you feel you are ready to say “yes to the dress” you can always FaceTime someone you would like to share that moment with.

How do I find out about upcoming events happening at The Bridal World or new arrivals?

Whenever there are any exciting upcoming events or new arrivals we post them on both our website under events and our Instagram page @thebridalworldny.

Alterations

When should I start alterations?

We generally book your first fitting 8 weeks before your wedding. This allows enough time for your 2nd and 3rd fitting. Each fitting is approximately 2 weeks apart.

Will my dress need to be altered?

Our basic alterations include the hem, bustle, adjusting the side seams to fit you best and steaming your gown. This is NOT included in the price of the gown at the time of purchase. Alterations are always a separate charge. Any other custom changes will also be an additional charge.

What do I need to bring to my fittings?

Be sure to bring with you the shoes you will be wearing on your day so that the seamstress can hem your gown to the proper length. You should also bring any undergarments, such as a corset or shape wear, you will be wearing on your big day. If you are not wearing either you can opt to have bra cups built into your dress.

Do you provide alteration services for anyone other than the bride?

Yes! We can do alterations for outside bridal gowns, bridal party, Mother of the bride, Mother of the Groom and special occasion dresses.
